Purpose
These rules are intended to ensure an environment in which artists participating in the Artist In Residence program
(hereinafter referred to as “AIR”) can engage in their activities safely, securely, and creatively during their stay.
Please respect interactions among artists and with the local community, and conduct yourself responsibly in accordance
with the following provisions.
Definitions
- WPÜ: Wonder-Powered You Co., Ltd.
- Facility: WPÜ SHINJUKU

Staff:
- WPÜ staff (Front Desk, AIR staff, Administrative Department)
- Outsourced staff (security company, cleaning company, building maintenance company, etc.)
- Artist: A person who has been granted permission to stay in the WPÜ SHINJUKU Artist In Residence program
- Common Areas: Facilities shared by artists and hotel guests (Reception, Share Kitchen, LOUNGE, GALLERY, hallways, etc.)
- Room: The guest room in which the artist stays
Article 1 (Rules of Conduct)
- Respect one another regardless of cultural or social background.
- Carry out creative activities in an orderly manner with consideration for those around you.
- Use common areas and production spaces in a clean and orderly manner.
- Do not allow outside guests to stay overnight without permission.
- Act responsibly after consuming alcohol.
- Do not smoke outside designated smoking areas (including e-cigarettes).
- The use of illegal drugs or narcotics is prohibited.
- If your creative activity involves hazardous materials or open flames, you must obtain prior permission.
- Pets are not allowed.
- Regarding accommodation, you must comply with the hotel’s accommodation policy.
Article 2 (Creative Activities)
- When producing work, take care not to soil or damage the facility or common areas.
- If you plan to bring in large-scale works or special materials, you must apply to staff in advance.
- When using paints, solvents, adhesives, or similar materials, take sufficient care not to soil shared spaces.
- If completed works are to be exhibited or made public, this must be carried out in consultation with staff.
- Creative activities involving danger are prohibited (including the use of open flames, explosives, or substances with strong odors).
Article 3 (Exhibitions and Events)
- If you wish to hold an exhibition or presentation in the gallery or common areas, you must obtain permission in advance from the contact address.
- Exhibitions or presentations that promote discrimination or defamation are prohibited.
- Events may not be held between 22:00 and 10:00.
- If an exhibited work poses a danger to others, you may be asked to remove it.
Article 4 (Entry into Rooms)
In the event of an emergency such as an earthquake, fire, or water leak, staff may enter guest rooms without prior permission.

Article 5 (Use of Electronic Devices and Equipment)
- Only electronic devices compatible with use in Japan (100V) may be used.
- Please use the shared kitchen for cooking. Cooking appliances may not be brought into guest rooms or the GALLERY.
- The use of equipment involving heat or flames (such as gas stoves, electric heaters, electric blankets, etc.) is prohibited in the GALLERY and guest rooms. If you wish to bring in any necessary equipment, please consult staff in advance.
- If any electrical appliance or facility breaks down or malfunctions, please contact staff immediately.
Article 6 (Fire Prevention and Safety)
- Candles and flammable substances may not be used. If your creative practice requires heat, flame, or solvents, you must apply to staff in advance and use them only under proper safety management.
- Please do not move fire extinguishers or disaster-prevention equipment from their designated locations. If they are used accidentally, you may be charged for the cost.
- Please do not block evacuation routes or emergency exits.
- Smoking is prohibited throughout the building except in designated smoking areas (including e-cigarettes).
Article 7 (Actions in Emergencies)
- In the event of an earthquake or fire, do not use the elevator and evacuate via the emergency stairs.
- If the fire alarm sounds, follow the designated evacuation route and move to a safe location.
- When evacuating, turn off electrical appliances and production equipment.
- Please remain calm and prioritize your personal safety above all else.
- After evacuation, you may not re-enter the building until safety has been confirmed. Please follow staff instructions.
Article 8 (Preservation of the Facility)
- Please handle guest rooms, the GALLERY, and all fixtures and equipment with care.
- Do not alter the building or facilities, or drill holes, without permission. If you need to install anything for exhibition or production purposes, you must first obtain staff approval.
- Please do not move furniture or fixtures in the common areas without permission.
- If you discover any problem with the facilities, please report it to staff immediately.
- Please do not install personal locks or security devices.
- Displaying works or installing notices in shared spaces requires staff approval.
- Please be sure to consult staff in advance before bringing in large-scale works or materials.
Article 9 (Hygiene Management)
Waste Disposal
Please separate your waste (burnable, non-burnable, glass bottles, cans, plastic bottles, hazardous items)
and bring it to the garbage disposal area on each floor.
Additional fees will apply for oversized waste and discarded artwork materials.
Use of Shared Kitchen
After use, please make sure to wash and clean the area, and return cooking utensils to their original place.
If you store items in the shared refrigerator, please be sure to label them with your name.
Laundry Use
Laundry facilities are available on the 8th floor from 6:00 to 26:00.
Please remove your laundry promptly after the cycle has finished.
Other
Please restore common areas to their original condition after use. Leaving personal belongings unattended is prohibited.
Article 10 (Communications from Staff)
Notices regarding fire inspections, exhibitions, and program-related matters will be sent to the email address
you registered at the time of move-in. Please check it regularly.
Article 11 (Noise)
Please do not create excessive noise or vibration that may disturb other artists or hotel guests.
Article 12 (Visitors)
- Visitors are not permitted to enter guest rooms. If you wish to meet a visitor, please use the 2F lobby or the 1F café.
- If any conduct in violation of these rules is found, you may be asked to leave the premises.
Article 13 (Mail, Deliveries, and Food Delivery)
- Mail and packages will be temporarily stored at the reception desk. Please have them sent under the name used for your reservation. Whenever possible, please receive them directly yourself. Items can be received free of charge up until the day before check-in.
- Refrigerated items and cash-on-delivery packages must be received by yourself.
- Please receive food delivery and courier services directly at the main entrance.
Article 14 (Bicycles and Parking)
There are no parking or bicycle spaces on the premises for artists or visitors.
Please use nearby paid facilities. Illegal parking is strictly prohibited.
Article 15 (Minor Residents)
Drinking and smoking by artists or visitors under the age of 20 are prohibited.
Article 16 (Events)
- Community events will be held as part of the residence program.
- If an artist wishes to organize an event, prior approval from staff is required.
- The following are prohibited:
- Events held between 22:00 and 10:00
- Events containing discriminatory or exclusionary content
- If violent or disruptive behavior is confirmed, the event will be canceled.
Article 17 (Use of Social Media)
- Defamation, abusive language, and discriminatory expressions are prohibited.
- Please do not post content that damages the reputation of the residence program or the organizing body.
- If the organizer determines that a post is inappropriate, you may be asked to delete it.
- Photos from organizer-hosted events may be posted on social media or other platforms. If you do not wish to be featured, please inform us in advance.
Article 18 (Environmental Conservation)
- Please help conserve water and electricity.
- If you discover a water leak or any problem with the facilities, please report it to staff immediately.
Article 19 (Payment)
- If accommodation fees are incurred during the stay, the artist shall, in principle, pay the full amount at the front desk upon check-in.
- If deemed necessary by the organizer, payment may also be made in advance by bank transfer or credit card.
- If payment is not made by the specified deadline, the accommodation agreement shall become invalid and the residence may not be used.
- Payments are non-refundable in principle. However, if the program is canceled due to circumstances on the organizer’s side, the full amount will be refunded.
Article 20 (Accommodation Conditions)
- In principle, artists will be accommodated in single rooms only.
- In principle, extending the stay is not permitted.
- If an extension becomes unavoidable during the stay, a hotel room may be offered at a 20% discount from the regular rate. In such cases, please complete the procedure at the front desk.
- Any inquiries or procedures related to the above must be made through the front desk staff.
- Please make your reservation under the name shown on your passport.
- Please comply with the Accommodation Policy.
