WPÜ SHINJUKU is a hotel and cultural hub with a youthful and international spirit. Through this project, we aim to shine a light on the fresh new voices in the art scenes of Tokyo and beyond.
We want to use our position as a central fixture in the area to showcase young and early-career artists and offer them room for experimentation, serving as a stepping stone in their artistic trajectory.
Shinjuku is a district shaped by intersecting cultures, energy, and a long-standing spirit of experimentation. As the city continues to change over time, so too do the forms of expres- sion that emerge within it. Guided by WPÜ’s motto of unlocking young people’s potential, we seek to activate our wall space as an open canvas for artistic exploration, reflective of Shinjuku’s free and creative character.
Through this open call, one artist will be selected to create a mural on the exterior wall of WPÜ SHINJUKU. The completed work will be presented as a piece of public art, open not only to hotel guests and residents but also to people passing through the city, creating a point of intersection be- tween the artist’s practice and the urban landscape of Shinjuku.
