A hands on workshop where participants use an original WPÜ T shirt sold at the KIOSK inside WPÜ SHINJUKU as their canvas, adding their own embroidery and darning under the guidance of artist hico.
Darning is a technique of repairing fabric by weaving threads across one another. Rather than hiding imperfections such as tears or fraying, it gives them a new character, transforming a ready made T shirt into a one of a kind piece.
Stitch by stitch, participants will work with their hands, sewing and layering threads freely, allowing their own instincts and ideas to take shape on the T shirt. The finished piece becomes more than a work of art. It is a way to carry the experience of time spent at WPÜ with you, in a form you can continue to wear.
Active under the name "hico works", working through hand-knitting, embroidery, and darning — a technique traditionally used to mend clothing. Under the theme "play with yarns, knit your story," creating work characterized by a playful approach to materials, continuing to explore forms of expression that treasure the small discoveries and textures found in everyday life.
