SHINJUKU PLEIN AIR

SHINJUKU PLEIN AIR

 @ WPÜ SHINJUKU
Art Exhibition

Shinjuku is one of Tokyo's most vibrant and captivating districts, offering an extraordinary range of experiences — from the serene beauty of Shinjuku Gyoen to the electric back alleys of Kabukicho, all connected by the overwhelming pulse of Shinjuku Station.

ZB is a resident artist at WPÜ. Over the past three months, he has been documenting his life in Shinjuku through drawings and paintings — sketchbook always in hand, observing the city through the eyes of an outsider. His work seeks to capture both intimate personal moments and the shared experiences that define life in this remarkable place.

Inspired by street photography, this project explores watercolor as a spontaneous and immediate medium for seizing fleeting moments. The original paintings are accompanied by scans of pencil sketches made on location, across the many corners of Shinjuku he has wandered through. Every piece in this exhibition is born from direct experience and careful observation.
